Makery is the first DIY restaurant where dining is not the main attraction, cooking is.
A new innovative Hungarian concept is starting its global journey. Makery’s first two international restaurants opened in Vienna and Bratislava, but the franchisor plans to open two more this year in other major European cities.
The first Makery DIY restaurant has been in operation in Hungary’s heart, Budapest for over 5 years now being a major attraction to locals and tourists alike. Diners can choose their meals from a tablet, but they will only receive the prepared ingredients. Guests can then follow the steps of the intuitive video tutorial on the same tablet to prepare their meals. Makery comes equipped with all the tools necessary for guests to create their own meals, each takes about 20-25 minutes. Here cooking becomes a fun, social activity: even in larger groups every member chooses from a wide-range of food options and work together at a large table.
The creative, problem-solving process of cooking at Makery makes the concept popular with businesses too. Friends and families are not the only ones visiting the franchise, companies also like to send their employees here as a form of team building.
András Kövécs, the co-founder said that they are also planning to open two more restaurants but the exact location is still undecided – their main choices are either Milan, Barcelona, Athens, Brussels, Berlin or Stockholm. Kövécs believes that the Makery DIY concept will be successful, as the model first restaurant already proven in Budapest where it gained a 5.0 consumer satisfaction rating.
